CMAI launches Ivy League

Monday, 04 July 2011

The Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) has launched Ivy league. It’s a separate group of members to stimulate intellectual talks and have annual meets to discuss the achievements of stalwarts in the apparel industry. It will also help in promoting brands. Rahul Mehta, President, CMAI says they decided to create a separate group within the membership of CMAI. It will have members who are manufacturers of repute and have some standing, with unlimited vision and the ambition to grow. “They are the crème de la crème of the Indian garment industry of tomorrow. They are not necessarily multinationals, or companies with a turnover of Rs 300 or Rs 500 crores. In fact, we have consciously tried to remain away from them. They are already our members. Their support is always with us,” says Mehta.

The Ivy League will be focus on inspirational talks from people who can offer intellectual vision. They will be both from within and outside the industry. Moreover, the league will also help in brand promotional activities to make domestic brands internationally known. B S Nagesh, Customer Care Associate and Vice Chairman, Shoppers Stop, feels this is an idea whose time has come. “I remember visiting some mom-and-shop operations and wishing they would get their act together. Everything depended on the owner’s whims and fancies and the functioning was chaotic and arbitrary.”
