Idea Weavers and Gitanjali Lifestyle organized the Gitanjali
Lifestyle Kolkata Couture and Lifestyle Fashion Week from April 14 to 17, 2011 at the Park Hotel, Kolkata. Gitanjali Lifestyle Kolkata Couture and Lifestyle Fashion Week over the last two years have turned Kolkata into the hub of all creative and business forces. The Couture Week kickstarted with designer Archana Kochhar’s collection, Sun, Sand and Sangeet, that proved to be the perfect wedding collection from georgettes, silks and velvet anarkalis to zardosi embellished tulle saris. Designer Anshul Talwar’s Kaleidoscope was a story about line, construction, texture and structures in silhouettes which were a mix of sharp cuts, slim structures along with detailing like pleats in saris, knots in gowns and flattering drapes. Up next was Delhi-based designer duo Riimple and Mayyur with their collection titled Journey, depicting the journey of women, with shades and styles from the Victorian era and with a touch of Mughal embroidery. Designer Babita Malkani had Bengali letters imprinted on all her collections.
Day two closed with James Ferreira’s variation of pristine white flirtatious dresses, some with interesting colorful applique work, infusing his quirky fashion sense by teaming the dresses with bright red stockings. He stole the show with funky palazzo pants, super-cool skirt-shorts, and lungi drapes. The second half of his show exuded elegance, with printed and cocktail dresses that floated gracefully down the runway in rich shades of reds. The most awaited collection on the third day was that by Paras and Shalini. The range of cocktail dresses and tunics spoke on a high level of surface texturing. Rohit Verma’s collection was a mix of saris, anarkalis, ball gowns, corsets and skirts. On Day four Sanchita Julka’s Cityscape presented an exotic amalgamation of urban hues of yellow, grey, white and blue in a collection that featured trousers, waistcoats and kalidars. Payal Jain’s collection named Five drew on the five elements of Hindu mythology, earth, water, fire, air and void (space). Designer duo Bharat and Reshma Grover transformed simple fabrics into brilliant tailoring and magnificent designs.
In Shruti Sanchiti’s Her Highness collection, opulent prettiness substituted for an ultra feminine royal and elegant look with perfectly cut straight fit trousers under slit ghagras, mukaish, zardosi and gota work on saris with waistcoats and lehariya tunics. Peach, pink, green and yellow further made her collection stubbornly feminine. Designer Zubair Kirmani had structured A-line, closed neck, tunic style knee length dresses in raw silk and satin. |
