While the grapevine is still speculating about designer Manish
Malhotra’s professional dressing debut with the Mumbai Security Force and Police, it is now Wendell Rodricks’ turn. He is supposed to be designing the uniform for Goa’s security forces. The buzz is that Rodricks has already thought things through.
According to Rodricks the tourism minister approached him for designing the uniforms for the tourist security force, which he has agreed to in principle. However, he is still waiting to get more details of what will be required. About the design, he says it depends where the tourist security personnel will be posted. If they are to be posted outside churches and temples, than they need to have appropriate attire. If they are to be posted on the beaches, than they have to wear something appropriate for the beach. There will be a common thread in the uniforms, so that tourists will be able to identify and recognize them immediately.
Roping in the designer is a part of plans to glamorize Goa further, after the negative publicity it received on safety issues at its beaches last few years. Rodricks had designed uniforms for the Goa police in the 90s after he was approached by the state government. The designer’s uniforms are spotted even today on the state’s traffic police. |
