Lotto to double EBOs in two years

Well-known Italian sports apparel manufacturer Lotto Sport Italia which has a strong presence in over 60 countries, is currently planning a pan-India expansion. It’s doubling its exclusive stores each year from the current 50 outlets. Over the next two years, the company will be increasing its retail presence mainly in Tier I-II cities with an average investment of around Rs 20 lakh for each new store. Lalit Kishore, Sports Lifestyle Managing Director says for the next two years, they will be doubling the number of mono brand Lotto stores every year from 50 exclusive stores that we will have by the end of March this year. He is confident in the next three years India will become number two in Asia-Pacific. At present they are mainly in Delhi and the northern region with only a few stores in other regions.

At present in the Asia-Pacific, India comes third after China and Japan in terms of turnover for Lotto but the company intends to change that statistic. Sports Lifestyle is the exclusive licensee for Lotto in India and Nepal. After having established its presence in metros and leading cities in India, the company has recently opened the first store of Lotto Nepal where it feels it has strong business potential. Sports Lifestyle was appointed as an exclusive licensee in India for Lotto in 2007 and the licensing contract has been extended for 15 years from January 2011.

As part of the expansion strategy, the company has established nearly 150 shop-in-shops in leading outlets like Shoppers Stop, Reliance Footprints, Pantaloons, Planet Sports and Ritu Sports across major cities. Having made its Italian debut in 1973 that Lotto among sports footwear manufacturers with tennis shoes signaling the beginning of production with sports clothing taking the stage afterwards, Lotto has now become a reference brand in the sports articles segment with special focus given to footwear and technical clothing for football and tennis.
