Spanish fashion and lifestyle brand Mango, which entered India in 2001 under a commercial

agreement with Major Brands, continues to expand its presence in the country. Six new stores are being opened in Mumbai, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Mohali and Ahmedabad. Mango currently has 16 stores in cities such as Mumbai, New Delhi, Bangalore, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Pune. It also has two shop-in-shops at Shoppers Stop. Of the brand’s total stores in India, Major Brands operates 14 outlets.

Apart from its partnership with Major Brands, Mango has another approved franchisee -- DLF Brands. This is for the south, some regions of the west and its Delhi airport stores. In December 2010, DLF entered into a new commercial relationship with Mango and opened two stores at the Delhi airport. The fashion brand began its international expansion in 1992 with the opening of two franchise stores in Portugal. In 2010, Mango increased its number of stores by 380. Seven of them were in Spain and 373 across the globe. This meant adding more than one new store every day.

Mango is a multinational Spanish company based in Barcelona. Its dedicated to the design, manufacture and marketing of garments and accessories for women. In 2008, the first clothing collection for men was introduced in some stores. Aimed at urban women aged between 18 and 40 years, this brand’s formula has turned it into one of the two leading Spanish clothing exporters, with over 1,000 stores worldwide. The fashion chain closed the 2010 financial year with a turnover of 1.27 billion euros.
