National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) has plans to review and redesign uniforms of Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) students of all classes. The decision comes as a part of KVs completion of the 50th year next year. In a circular issued by Shachi Kant, Joint Commissioner, to all the deputy commissioners across the KV Sangathans, it was stated that “It has been decided to revisit some of its features which establishes its unique identity including its uniform.” The work regarding the same is already underway, the letter states. SP Thakur, Principal of KV No. 1 said, “The circular has been uploaded on our school website for all to see. The change is currently in the pipeline. The order for the same has been issued from the headquarters in New Delhi. Guidelines regarding the new uniform are expected around May-June this year.”

He added, “We have asked the students not to buy new uniforms till July. The new admissions in class I have been instructed too. They are currently coming in coloured uniform till orders are issued for the change.” The letter also states that the “old uniform may continue to be in vogue...the old ones may be weaned out of use gradually within a period of two years, i.e. July 2014.”
