Nike extends Team India sponsorship

Nike is proclaimed to be the official kit supplier for Team India for the next five years. The deal is believed to have been closed at around Rs 2.7 billion. Nike’s previous Rs 2 billion deal with BCCI, for sponsoring Team India uniforms for five years, ended in December 2010. But in consideration of the World Cup the same was extended for three months, till March 2011. The US-based sportswear manufacturing brand commits itself to provide BCCI and Team India with innovative products.

Nike's power to sell comes from deep-rooted yearnings for cultural inclusiveness and individual athletic accomplishment. The brand’s advertising philosophy is, at once, simple and sublime. In addition, Nike's practice of top-level athletes promoting their products appeals to countless ages and creeds as a way to identify with and emulate their athletic heroes.
