Reliance Trends to float private labels

Reliance Trends, the apparel, luggage and accessories speciality format of Reliance Retail is looking at launching a couple of private apparel brands within a year on the back of success of its private brands. The share of private brands in the overall turnover of Reliance Trends stood at 42 per cent when the retailer started its operations. The share has subsequently grown to 50 per cent of its total sales and is expected to reach 55 per cent in the next two years. The Reliance Trends outlets currently houses around 100 brands which include 16 private brands. Some of the company owned brands such as Performax, Network, DNMX and Teamspirit have gained good response from customers.

The apparel segment is the biggest draw accounting for 90 per cent of total sales at Reliance Trends. Apart from launching the private apparel labels, the company is also focusing on retail expansion and looking at reaching the 100-store milestone by the end of this fiscal, from its current 57. The company recently introduced a store in Orissa and fifth in eastern India with a plan to add five more stores in the eastern region by December-end in locations like Kolkata, Guwahati, Asansol, Shillong and Cuttack. It is also targeting to double its turnover this fiscal as against Rs 330 crores in 2010-11.
