Rodricks out of Lakme Fashion Week

Tuesday, 01 February 2011

Wendell Rodricks will not mentor young designers at the upcoming Lakme Fashion Week. He?s been  replaced by Aki Narula. According to industry reports it was a shock for Roedricks as he was not informed about the replacement. Moreover, he resigned from the LFW advisory board in 2009 and had no idea about the entries. And hence, the designer has ruled himself out for this LFW, but he is keeping his options open for other fashion weeks.

Rodricks began his career in fashion after a successful tenure in hotel management. Trained in Los Angeles and Paris, he returned to India in 1988. He established his own label in 1990. He moved to his ancestral village in Goa in 1993, creating memorable collections each season. He was the first Indian designer invited to display his garments at the world?s largest garment fair at Dusseldorf. He lectures on world costume history and writes for the country?s leading women?s magazines. He is presently writing a book based on Goa?s clothing traditions. He is a keen art patron and wants to open a costume museum in Goa.
