Spencer’s Retail, the supermarket chain from the house of RPG, is gaining back its foothold in
the markets as its stores have started making profits. Things are surly looking up for the moment although the company is still incurring a cash loss says the vice-chairman Sanjiv Goenka. The retail division of the company has seen an increase in its monthly average sales and is expected to make profits by 2012-2013.
Spencer’s Retail has overhauled its marketing strategy and it now includes private labels as well as local merchandise that are more relevant to the geographical location of its outlets. Spencer’s Retail now offers around 25 per cent local products in its stores depending on the location and demands of the area. While 75 per cent of the products are standardized throughout the country, the remaining 25 per cent are tailor-made for a particular type of geographical denomination.
Goenka feels Spencer’s is doing well and the strategy of having private labels/brands is paying dividends. Private brands in Spencer’s offer a wide range of products from food, personal care and fashion to home utility items. Spencer’s Smart Choice, Tasty Wonders, Clean Home and Maroon are some of the brands which host a varied choice that fulfils almost all needs of a modern household. |
