Men’s wear brand Turtle has decided to source a part of its shirts and trousers requirements
from Bangladesh. The first consignment is expected to materialise in the next couple of months. The idea behind this move is not only to cut costs but to test whether large volumes could be manufactured there without compromising on the brand’s quality.
Turtle has already spruced up capacity at its existing manufacturing facility in Howrah from 1.6 million pieces per annum to 2.5 million pieces (shirts and trousers). The brand that wants to enter Nepal with its collection, already exports to countries like Dubai, Bahrain, Kuwait, Fiji Islands and many parts of the UAE. At present, as much as 20 per cent of its total turnover comes from trouser sales, which the company expects, would grow significantly without bringing down the contribution of shirts business. The company has got into the denim segment, rolling out Turtle Jeans in the price range of Rs 1,400-Rs 1,600.
On the retail front, Turtle has 52 EBOs across India and plans to add more over the next one year. The new stores will mostly come up in east and south India.
