WIFW to have offsite shows

Friday, 03 February 2012

The Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week A/W ’12 being held from February 15-19 will accommodate offsite shows at some hot nightspots of Delhi other than the usual fashion shows held at the venue. The idea is based on the concept followed by international fashion galas. For the first time ever, such a concept would be tried in India, wherein two designers -- Tarun Tahiliani and Rohit Bal -- would showcase their designs at Blue Frog and another yet to be finalised venue respectively. Bal has organised an offsite venue show in the past at Aman, during the Couture Week in 2010.

Though a new concept for Indian fashion world, off site shows is the newest trend abroad and is gradually gaining ground here. For such off site events the venue chosen to showcase the collection plays an important role since the surroundings have to suit the garments on display.

What inspires the designer and his/her forte also needs to be taken into consideration while choosing the off-site spot, since both the venue and the designs need to complement each-other. With experimentation like off-site fashion shows, Indian fashion is definitely becoming a larger and more expansive canvas.
