Zara has opened its new store at Ambience mall, Gurgaon spread over 28,000 square foot across two floors, on the space earlier occupied by Debenhams. With this, Zara now has 12 stores in India. It is present in 86 countries with a network of 1,751 stores.

Zara is among the handful of fashion brands that has defied the trend of consumers cutting back on their discretionary spends as shoppers continue to throng to its stores. Following Zara’s success, other global fast fashion retailers like Sweden’s H&M and Japan’s Uniqlo are also planning to launch their operations in India.

After Zara, the world's most popular fast-fashion brand known for its ability to take a new style from design table to dressing room in a matter of weeks, made a splash in May 2010, another brand under the Inditex fold, Mossimo Dutti too wants to attract eyeballs in India. Zara, which is in the country through a partnership between Inditex and Tata, has made profits in two out of its three years in India. Last fiscal it made a profit of Rs 38 crores on revenues of Rs 259 crores.
