Spanish fast fashion brand Zara’s store in New Delhi had customers thronging the aisles. First day
sales are reported to have hit Rs 50 lakh. The line for women reputedly ranges between Rs 899 to Rs 8,000. A white cut-out top is for Rs 2,000. Expectedly the jeans which are reasonably priced at Rs 1,500 onwards has been accepted well by Indians who are known for their value-for-money concepts. Displayed were a collection of shoes that showed why Zara has a reputation for being au courant in fashion. These are in stylish and attractive designs and soft muted colors and looking to make a splash even with the onset of the rains.
If the store keeps to its promise of bringing contemporary fashion to India, its reputation will be enhanced further. Zara is set to open at the Palladium, Mumbai, shortly. Fashionistas and Page 3 aspirants are expected to make a beeline for this glittering arcade not only to see but to be seen. If the footfalls convert to purchases, retailers will breathe easy. The rest of Mumbai is looking forward to dark clouds on the horizon, but retailers want the silver lining in the dark cloud of recession that looks like lifting at last.
