Cantabil Retail India, well-known for their Cantabil brand of denims and casual family wear is now aggressively panning out to South and East India after establishing the brand over the rest of the country. Large cities and Tier II-III towns in Tamil Nadu and Kerala are on their expansion list along with Kolkata and smaller cities in the Northeast. It also has plans to take up showroom proposals from untapped markets wherever possible and open 80 new stores all over India by March 2011.
Not just satisfied with geographical expansion, Cantabil has also introduced new designs and variety in its product portfolio for the autumn/winter season in keeping with international trends. In men’s wear there is a new trend of slim fit suits as well as smart collar cuts in formal shirts although the basic colors in this range remain unchanged. The company’s line of men’s accessories like ties, belts, socks and hankies is also doing well.
“We had a turnover of Rs 202 crores last year. By March 2011, I expect the turnover to be Rs 260 crores. For the last three years, our CAGR has been 66 per cent. We have nearly 400 showrooms, and all in prime locations. We launched women’s wear in 2007 and kidswear in 2008. We now make the full range of family wear and figure among the top five companies in India like Benetton and Wills Lifestyle making the full range of family wear.” says Vijay Bansal, Chairman of Cantabil India.
Cantabil considers Koutons to be its closest competitor as both deal in the discount format. Other regional and local brands who are also in discount pricing are also considered competition. The company’s current facility is at Lawrence Road in Delhi with three units it has a capacity of one lakh pieces a month for trousers, shirts and denim. Around 50 per cent of their production is outsourced from Delhi’s garment manufacturers after giving them the fabrics.
Cantabil has many EBO’s with an average size of 700 sq. ft. which are set up with an estimated investment per store of Rs 20 lakhs. While about 140 of these stores are company-owned, the rest are franchisees. Currently it has around 400 showrooms which are mostly in Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, UP, Maharashtra and Hyderabad.
