With a turnover of around Rs 120 crores, Global Desi, the brand from designer Anita Dongre’s AND Designs India is looking at doubling this figure in 2014. Elaborating on their success, Sangita Rohira, CEO AND Designs India says, “The

journey has been phenomenal. Global Desi has a success story like no other. Within four years of it being launched, it is being retailed through over 140 points of sale, which include 40 exclusive stores and 100 established shop-in-shops.”

Rohira
says they have chalked out a robust plan for expanding aggressively. The aim is to reach 100 exclusive stores in the next two years and also increase the brand’s visibility at shop-in-shops. “On the international front, we are looking at countries that have the potential to sell Indo western wear but in the franchise mode only and not exports,” she adds divulging details about the company’s retail plans.

The company also started an e-commerce platform two years ago and witnessed more than twice the growth in the past one year. “Global Desi has a great fan following and thus it seems to have the largest stake in e-commerce among the three brands – AND, Global Desi and Anita Dongre. Global Desi is a major revenue generator,” states Rohira.

The company has recently introduced its Spring/Summer collection. Giving an insight on the range, Rohira says, “With our Spring/Summer collection, we have gone a little more western by bringing in jumpsuits, dresses, skirts as well as shorts. We will soon introduce another collection named Liva encouraging viscose as a summer friendly material this season.”

She feels growing fashion consciousness has turned women’s wear segment into a highly evolving market. “We have witnessed a significant growth in the women's wear market fuelled by an increasing number of women in the workplace. Moreover, Indo-western wear is the mainstay of the woman’s wardrobe today which works well for Global Desi.” And goes on to add FDI will boost the apparel sector in the coming years.
