Ritu Beri has come a long way from being the first Indian designer to head the well known French fashion house, Scherrer. She headed Scherrer, at a time when not many Indian designers had got the opportunity to even showcase their

designs in Paris, the Mecca of Fashion. One among the top most designers in India today, Beri has created a niche with herself with her exclusive designs. Her latest offerings comprises of opulent and elaborate silhouettes. “The collection is about rich artistic handwork modelled into contemporary silhouettes with subtle details of embroidery to enhance the soft feminine appeal. The collection comprises of feminine draped dresses and bejewelled skirts that exudes versatility, grandeur and panache,” says Ritu Beri proprietor of Ritu Beri Designs.

Beri
says she loves to work with rich brocades, jacquards, chiffon and georgettes, which lend sensuality to the look, blending old world charm, traditional embroidery with modern patterns from geometrical shape, asymmetrical patterns to abstracts. Creating interesting textures adds allure to a look. “I love to explore the impossibilities and work in an inspired mode while mostly designing to satisfy myself,” Beri elaborates on her creative inspirations and style of working.

She says her work has been greatly influenced by her personal state of mind. In her own words, “Style is what makes fashion eternal or just a mere trend. One should wear what suits the personality. My style is intrinsically feminine- romantic with a flamboyant twist. It is about enhancing a woman’s individuality and persona. Also I love women to look glamorous, which shows perfectly in my collection”, she adds. Beri says, high waist pants, sheer maxi dresses, fur coats, wide legged pants are catching everyone’s attention these days. “The look for 2011-’12 appears to be futuristic with an elegance and sophistication. The spirit is intrinsically feminine, romantic but flamboyant. The silhouettes exude a youthful charm, retaining a feel of grandeur. Fabrics are light, sophisticated, soft-touch like classic silky blends, rich brocades, textured weaves with crinkled effects. Colour palette vary from blood red to classic shades of black and grey, deep maroon,” she says about the season’s mood.

Beri’s collections are retailed through various stores. Moreover she also participates in numerous multi-designer activities. She also does jewellery and footwear and on the lifestyle side she does furniture and designs homes. “The fashion world is fascinating and the best thing about it is the many options there are for creativity. I enjoy exploring the impossibilities and work in an inspired mode only to satisfy myself and my passions. I love doing homes and furniture.”
