When she walked resplendent in a white gown, Deepika Padukone looked like a beautiful Christian bride. At the recent Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week S/S ’12, Padukone dazzled the ramp in designer Wendell Rodricks bridal outfit. The Goa-based designer showcased a variety of beautiful garments varying from gowns, camisoles, palazzos, jumpsuits and jackets. For the very first time he introduced malkha cottons in his collection with colors like black, brown, white, beige and cream. Rodricks is best known for his fine cuts and play of fabrics. For this show, he metamorphosed the stage into a moonlit silvery beach with deep blue sea in the backdrop and pinpricks of stars in the sky, welcoming the audience to behold the moment created by Wendell Rodricks.
About his collection Rodricks says he wanted to create an atmosphere of Goa and the mood of a rock party on a beach. He says oversized comfortable clothing is the next big trend for the coming season. White dominated the runway. Green, silver, blue, magenta and black were the other colors he played with. Rodricks also showcased men’s wear. There were swimming trunks, lungi wraps, beach trousers, pajamas, kurta shirts, bermudas, track suits, jackets and waistcoats. Of course, the show had a little ‘oops’ moment when model Indrani Dasgupta was about to fall while walking the ramp as her gown came in her way. But as a true professional she managed to hold herself and completed her walk with elan.
